LO2 Task 2 KTA 6: Genre of festival decided. Mood board of target audience interests and full demographic profile created.

For the assignment breif i will produce a promotional and marketing materials for a new live music event 'Steel City Fest'. For the festival material i will create at least three of the following;
- Logo
- Magazine Advertisement
- Ticket Design
- A5 Flyer
- Billboard poster

Festival:  Steel City Fest
When:  20-22nd of December
Location: South Yorkshire; Sheffield.
Genre: Mixture - Metal and Rock
Tickets: £8 a day, £21 full weekend pass.

I am going to pin point my audience in terms of audience demographics: age, gender, social grade.

John Hartley (1987) suggested that media producers create 'invisible fictions' of their target audiences.

Ien Ang (1991) similarly argued that all media producers create 'imaginary entities' of their target audience before creating a media product.

The mood board I have done towards what I think my target audience are interested in and their daily interests. This shows things like clothes brands, drinks, websites, games, hobbies, technology etc. The two bands I included in this was the two bands I will include in my festival that have the biggest fan base.

Copyright considerations:
- Where i get my information from.
- Did i design and create what i'm using myself.
- Did i take the pictures myself.

LO1: Task 1: KTA 4: ASA

1. What should a logo design look like?
- Simple
- Memorable
- Smart
- Easy to recognise
- Unique
- Reproducible

2. Where should a headline act be placed in a list on a poster?
- Top of the page.

3. What C 'word should we remember for analysing media?
- Convention
- Connotation

Advertising Standards Authority - is a non-statutory body but provides a code of practise for advertising.

- Adverts should not cause offence.
- Adverts should not glorify alcohol, sexual activity, or drug taking.
- Adverts should not cause any harm to children or influence them.
- Adverts should not be misleading.
- Adverts should not give false information about what they selling/promoting or exaggerate the claims that have been made.

Skittles Advertisement banned for Sexual Activity through the advertisement, this creates offence to the target audience as skittles are for kids, and using sex to advertise a sweet may stop parents from letting their children buy they products if their child see the advertisement.

Dior Advertisement banned for false advertising, using photoshop on her eyelashes and saying the product, gives you a 'miracle effect', this could create offence to the audience because they will feel betrayed, and may stop them in future buying the product, so they could lose customers for their make up.

Lynx Chocolate Advertisement was banned for being using racial inequality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCZ-6y2UEfM

None of the advertising i have researched for music festivals have any inappropriate content, because they are trying to sell it to a young audience and need to come across as to teenagers parent's as a good environment for them to be in.

LO1 Task 1 KTA 3: Analysing Graphic Design of Music Campaigns

The isle of wight festival poster also uses a banner when they use the phrase 'main stage' to tell you that it is important information as it is where the bands will be playing and generally all the acts playing on a main stage are bands which are well known and have a big fan base. The also use quite a small leading between the lines so that all the bands are squished togethor this shows that the acts they are having alot of bands on during the time of the festival and are using the time well.
The billboard for the freshers part also uses short slogans and sell lines with the countdown as it kind of helps you remember the information after you have drove past. The whole billboard could be classed as a banner, as the white text stands out as it is only important information on the billboard as they do not have long to read it. There is no body text in this billboard as any sort of small information or lots of writing would distract the person looking at the billboards and not capture as much of the important information.
The leading in the script album cover is all equal showing that they have a consistent style of music on their album. The band logo or name, uses quite sharp edges which could connote that their music gets straight to the point.
The album cover for the Gorillaz has a lot of white space around the cartoon images of the band members this denotes that they are trying to draw your attention to the cartoon images of the band members. The album cover also uses a sans serif font which shows that they are stepping away from tradition and trying to be different than all the other artists out there. The album uses banners as the white text is on  a black background and these two colors are contrasting colors.

LO2 Task 1 KTA 2: Complete basic analyses of a CD cover and magazine advert.

The bar code is placed at the bottom of the CD Cover to fill up the empty space.

The wedding picture on the front of the CD Cover shows that they are fans of football as they have used Manchester Football players wedding photo.

Pulp is the distinctive logo.

The title of the album 'Different Class' denote that their songs in the album are about people of different social classes.

Using the wedding photo on the album cover could connote that they have a close bond in the band, so the picture credits come from Manchester footballer.  The kerning in the letters of the band name could also connote their close bond within the band.

The text banners because its on a dark background, and stands out to the audience.

The title of the album being 'Different Class' could connote the fact that people from all classes are coming together for one event showing anchorage going on in the picture.

The fact that the band members are in the wedding picture itself but like in a ghostly figure could connote the fact that the don't fit in to the mainstream music event, it could also connote the fact that certain people do not fit in with others, which links to the title of the album showing again some anchorage.

The side covers quite dull and boring and has a black background to match the background.

Denotation - The literal meaning of images.
Connotation - The suggested and possible meanings of images.

LO1 Task 1 KTA 1: Write up industry notes on blog of Human Studios and Clear Channel UK

Nick Bax (Human studios) - humanstudio.com

The company is a Graphic Design company that has worked with many bands and game industries, it has worked and completed design projects for such as MTV and University of Sheffield. There a
re currently 6 people working for 'Human' which some of the workers have become self taught, which most of them are from Yorkshire. They have helped with the branding of Fitriani which took them an initial 3 month. Through there times of Graphic Design they have developed many apps and animation for many different companies.

When they initially worked with the University of Sheffield, they designed a homepage, brochure, QR scanner which linked to the video.  They also worked with Festival of Mind they designed projections, billboards, bus adverts, to raise awerness for the festival.

Human studios has it's own free app called 'the art of sci-tech'. They have also created a 3D Gallery in barcelona 'like virtual world'. They have 3D gallery which you are able to download on to your computer which is also free, which feels realistic as you can go round the gallery at your own pace, and hear the wildlife sounds when you walk out side of the virtual gallery.

The name 'Human' is the name of the business because it is something everyone remembers as it short and unusual. Another reason is because everything changes but humans still stay the same. They also call themselves 'Human' because humans create art but animals can't create art.

Clear Channel Outdoor UK - Nigel Stafford; Graphic Designer and Photographer for Clear Channel and also freelance, producer at Gadgetboy studio, and DJ at local authority, corporation, and freelance.

£10,000 is the average amount paid for a billboard in London.

OOH - Out of Home advertising.

Magazine Ad - Go on internet research previous exposed magazines, look for design specs.
Ticket - Where the tear is going to be? Is it a good souvenir for people to keep? Is it still advertising when people show their friends?

gbp logo- kind of the same, they sit nice together, they're also one shape just rotated which looks like earphones. The logo also looks like a pair of earphones which gives you some inside knowledge into what the business is to do with.

4Gnet - For this design they had client, which wanted certain things in the logo and design, as the wanted it similar to the Skype logo.

When designing logo's - Need accurate brief, whats wrong, whats right, similar design. more detail, more accurate.

Good logo: Colors, smart, simple, remember-able.

My Property matters logo - It's friendly and welcoming and uses soft colors.

Different colors have different meanings. Different fonts have a different meaning towards differnet audiences. A Sans Serif font suggests that you are different and stepping away from tradition, and being unusual to other businesses of the sort. Where as Serif font suggest your a traditional business.

Billboards - People reading billboards are read by people generally in cars. So the average person reading a billboard has around 4 seconds to catch some information on the billboard.

Inside a bus shelter - Lot's of information, they have nothing to do, time to waste, QR Scanner? Biggest bans in a larger font to capture attention.

SD2 Poster - Suggests innocence with a clean white background, trying to capture a young audience with the pinks and purple colors used in the poster and only three acts on the poster with the biggest fan base.

QR code - Tap and scan maybe more bands?

'Headline bands' - In a larger font to capture a larger fan base, as they are the bigger acts with large fan bases.

Bigger the act, bigger the font on the poster.

Research audience of festival - age, sex, social-economic group.

Research environment - roadside, head-on, ambient
